Trip Report: Red Mountain is a bit of secret beast. In winter, the road is closed ~15 miles from the trailhead, and the ascent requires falling up steep sections of bush whacking, and to finish, a ridge that is almost always incredibly windy.'
Viewable in the image above, there are multiple worthy chutes varying from 35-45+ degrees. Most containing no-fall zones. We skied the right most chute, and were glad to not have fallen, and were glad to be done.
The best beta we found is by the legend Rod Benson, in his blog “Red Mountain Southwest of Helena”. Between that blog and a call to the local snowmobile club, if that isn’t enough beta for you, perhaps consider knitting as an alternate hobby.
